Individual Travel Grants (IG)
Individual Grant Policy
Resource & Referral Individual Grants are funded through
the Department
of Health & Social Services. They are intended to provide
education and training for eligible child care providers to help
with training related travel. These funds are not meant to cover
the entire cost, but only to supplement the expense of training-related
travel
within the state of Alaska .
Child care providers interested in Individual Grants must be
eligible providers and submit a request in writing in advance
of the training. Listed below are the Individual Grant request
criteria. All reimbursements will be negotiated based on availability
of funds and training location.
Caregiver Eligibility
A child care provider is eligible for requesting an Individual
Grant if he/she works for a state licensed facility.
If funding is available, a caregiver can request an Individual
Grant that would reimburse the pre-approved costs, provided the
following:
- The caregiver requesting the Individual Grant provides in
writing, in advance of the training, his/her qualifications;
why the training cannot obtained locally and how the information
will increase the child care resources upon return of the trainee
to his/her community. Include how long you have worked in your
current position and how you will be willing to share your information.
This may be done by writing a letter with this information included
or by filling out an application. Applications are available
through C.A.R.E.S. Resource & Referral.
- C.A.R.E.S. can reimburse up to 100% the cost of travel (air
or ground) with original ticket voucher submitted after the
training event for travel within the state of Alaska.
- C.A.R.E.S. can reimburse up to 100% the cost of accommodations
(if attending a conference the conference hotel rate will be
used) with original hotel receipt submitted after the training
event for travel within the state of Alaska.
- The caregiver requesting the Individual Grant will be required
to sign an agreement before the training takes place. This agreement
must be returned to C.A.R.E.S. before travel/training takes
place.
- The child care provider will be expected to fully participate
in the training session or conference. This includes keynote
addresses, & full day training sessions. A copy of the
signed training certificate is required for verification.
- C.A.R.E.S. can reimburse a per diem of $42 per day for each
day of the training. This amount may be applied towards your
costs for food, ground transportation or other expenses. If
funds are limited, this may be excluded. Receipts are not required.
- Individual Grants cannot pay for conference or workshop registration.
You can however, apply for an Individual
Reimbursement (IRF) for that cost if those funds are available.
- Individuals may receive one Individual Grant between July
1, 2005 and June 15, 2006. If more funds become available, or
if present funds are not fully utilized, other grants per individual
may become available.
